Who are you?
My name is Zak Felix. I write and edit all articles published on this site. Calgary, Canada is my home. I have been writing on the intersection of literature, art and history for 15 years. My articles have been published in several magazines and also discussed on the radio. If you have questions or comments, contact me at zf@booksontrial.com
What is Books on Trial?
It’s a project in free speech focused on controversial books, most of which were (or still are) banned, censored or challenged. That includes classic literature in addition to widely known (and some obscure) works. Explore the controversial books featured on this site by theme.
Can’t I just read the darn books?
Yes, and I highly encourage you to do so, but not everyone is ready to read a 300-page book to learn about its most thought-provoking four paragraphs. Perhaps this website could serve as an introduction to such books and I’m also hoping my content would spark the interest of a younger audience.
Why do you need support?
Most of the content on this website has been rejected by Google and other advertising networks because the subject matter violates their policies. Topics on sex, suicide and slavery, even when approached through classic literature and a voice of reason and compassion, are not allowed. Now I see advertising as the wrong model to fund my work. Your donations in the name of free speech through Patreon would encourage me to keep going and keep this website online.
Do you have other ways of support?
Yes, if you can’t support monetarily, subscribe to my email list, Facebook page or Twitter feed. Share with your friends.
Sincerely,
Zak Felix
